Types of Internal Floating Roofs
Pontoon Type Internal Floating Roof:
Pontoon IFRs consist of a series of individual pontoons that float on the liquid's surface, forming a roof over the stored product.
Full Contact Type Internal Floating Roof:
Full-contact IFRs have a flexible cover that fully contacts the liquid surface, minimizing vapour space.

Double Deck Type Internal Floating Roof:
Double-deck IFRs comprise two decks, with the lower deck floating on the liquid surface and the upper deck supporting the seal.
Geodesic Dome Type Internal Floating Roof:
Geodesic dome IFRs use a geometrically structured cover supported by vertical columns.

The pontoon type IFR is usually inserted into the tank through a 24" manway. It is also the easiest to install.
Other full contact internal floating roofs, whether honeycomb, open compartment or polyurethane foam panel type, usually require specific manholes larger than 24". They also require more assembly time.
